strobel.digital. also stands for technical exploration — pushing the boundaries at the intersection of design and technology in an experimental way. We give creativity the freedom to flourish in our own projects, leading to works that range from creative coding combined with art and music, to hardware experiments using Arduino. A small selection of these explorations can be found below.
Scenographic translation of classical music
This project was inspired by Arnold Böcklin's 1880 painting, "Isle of the Dead." Using Processing, I mapped the painting's individual brightness values onto the z-axis value of various types of particles. These particles now respond to the frequencies present in Giuseppe Tartini's musical piece, "Devil's Trill Sonata."
Interpretation methods
Above, you can see a small collection of picture and sculpture interpretations. We start with Georges Seurat's "Bathers at Asnières" which is dynamically rasterized to create a sense of movement. Next, we use a color-facing method to new interpret Oskar Schlemmer's painting "Bauhaustreppe." Finally, we present an iconic sculpture, the "Laocoön Group," using a 3D rotating rasterization technique.
The tool
My final idea was to visualize the share of conversation of every person in a discussion. The use case for this could be, for example, in political discussions to analyze who spoke how much and how the conversation unfolded. The goal is to create a visualization that shows the share of conversation for each participant involved in the discussion
The Prototype
In the end mic one is fixed on the person 1 of the discussion and mic 2 on the person 2 of the discussion.
Explanation
Volume of mic1 is mapped on x-axis. Volume of mic2 is mapped on y-axis. Axis numer 3 shows when the participants speek at the same time.
Situation 1
We can see that the share of speech between mic no. 1 and no. 2 is quite balanced. In rectangle no. 3, we can see the share of conversation when both of the participants speak at the same time, such as when someone interrupts the other person.
Situation 2
The share of speech of person 1 is a little higher than that of person 2. We can see that they didn't speak at the same time. So it was a really civil discussion.

The colour picker prototype
The Color Picker prototype was developed to address the problem that, in my opinion, it is quite challenging to make precise color adjustments using color palettes with a mouse cursor. Therefore, I came up with the idea of creating a physical tool that allows for very accurate color adjustments. The tool is based on the HSB color space and allows for adjusting the hue by turning the dial, the brightness by moving along the Z-axis, and the saturation by using the slider on the X-axis. The entire project was prototyped using Arduino and Processing.
